Törggelen in South Tyrol

When the leaves of the vineyards begin to turn the most beautiful shades of yellow, gold and red and the grape harvest is over, the ‘fifth season’ begins in South Tyrol, the Törggele season.

Originating from an old tradition, according to which wine merchants, winegrowers and connoisseurs used to meet in the wine cellars after the end of the grape harvest to taste the new vintage, Törggelen has developed over the years into an indispensable attraction for locals and tourists alike. Usually combined with a leisurely autumn hike through South Tyrol’s most beautiful chestnut forests and vineyards, you then stop off at one of the numerous Buschenschänken (wine taverns) or Hofschänken (farm taverns) and let the innkeeper treat you to homemade dumplings, Schlutzkrapfen, sauerkraut, Surfleisch, house sausages, roasted chestnuts, sweet “Krapfen” and wine.

The Putzer is located directly at the entrance to the Eisack Valley – the centre of this ancient tradition – and is the ideal starting point for your autumn hikes and Törggele trips. So take your hunger and thirst with you and start your holiday in South Tyrol!
